Communication with Those Who have Died
I believe that people who have 'died' can communicate with those still here on earth in a physical body. When I say I believe, I mean I absolutely know, because I and my family have experienced it personally for ourselves, many times. Communication is through someone with developed mediumistic gifts, and can take the form of relayed verbal communication, written messages or actual spoken word by trance mediums. Everyone has the innate ability to do at least some of these things but in most people the ability lies dormant, especially in the western world, because our culture, society and religions, by and large, do not want it or believe in it, and even forbid it.

The thing that makes it convincing for me is that this communication has happened not just once or a few times but many times, and still does, regularly, through the many different people that I and my family meet in circles or as individuals. The proof for us is that new people who come into the groups and who initially know nothing about us and our history, bring either the same or equally valid evidence through. Adding all these up, it simply cannot be false or made up: it has happened and continues to happen too many times to leave any room for doubt.

That said, one must always be aware that the message is dependent on the medium, and, just as light changes through the medium of water and other less or more dense mediums, so if the human medium is not very clear, ie. not highly gifted or trained, then the message may be less accurate in detail. Mediums also have 'off-days', like the rest of us, so sometimes a normally good medium will not bring through so many clear messages - and conversely, on a good day, more of us can receive messages. The moderating effect of the medium, ie. when the evidence is less clear, is probably one of the reasons why mediumistic abilty is often questioned - and rightly so, because we must question everything to ascertain its validity. But with a really good medium, because of natural ability and/or training, the messages can be very clear. I have spend more than 2 hours with one medium, 'chatting' to departed loved ones. This sort of experience, when so much unmistakable information comes through, is the sort of experience that leaves you totally convinced - and uplifted.

Triangulation is the method by which data is checking for consistency in the social sciences. We have actually been advised by spirit to use triangulation to check the validity of the messages that we receive! So if you doubt what you hear from one medium, seek it from another to see if the information tallies. When you have 2 or 3 sources that agree, that's triangulation. (Strangely, it doesn't have to be 3 to be called triangulation!)

I have been amazed that in my circle of friends, colleagues and acquaintances, many are not only ready for all this but have started to experience things for themselves, with their natural mediumistic ability. It is within us - we only have to unearth it. Some of us, myself included, have further to dig, for it can be buried very deep. But it is there!

Some important things to remember
Many spirits are just one or two steps ahead of us. They do not have all the answers. Imagine you have just died and found you can communicate through a medium on earth to loved ones left behind. You are still the same you as were, with a little more insight but not much more knowledge about the grand scheme of things yet. So don't always expect words of amazing wisdom. Some of them could be actually be less advanced or knowledgable than other people left on earth! But certainly there are advanced spirits who come through at circles with enlightened messages. Here is a link to such a message received through the late trance medium, Lucy Hale. At the bottom of the page there is a link to the actual recording. I recommend that you listen to it, as it gives an extra meaning to the message.

The communication also depends on the spirit person at the other end. Some loved ones may not find it easy to communicate, or indeed may not want to. Remember the point above - they are still essentially the same as they were on earth.
The process is not as easy for them as we might think. Sometimes an intermediary is needed, and sometimes a circle of spirits gather together to communicate with the circle on earth. The messages that we receive then maybe a sum of the thoughts of the spirits. Because they communicate through telepathy, their thoughts can be merged into one agreed message. If fact we are told that this is very often how it works.

In addition, we should consider that as humanity has changed and developed over the last several thousand years, messages from spirit have adapted to match the understanding of our species. Thus on the one hand the Bible and other religious books may appear to emphasise one thing, but late 20th and 21st century writing may appear to say something quite different, or at least the same thing with a very different slant. Even within the 'modern' era - ie. the last 150 years, the messages have changed from often being an attempt to expand traditional church teaching to having more of a New Age approach.
Here are just a handful of the thousands of sources of spirit message that are freely available on the Internet:

John Hardaker's Site - Lucy Hale, - one of the best and in fact my family's starting point for reading about Spiritualism and Life After Death on the Internet.
On the same site: Ken Hanson's Circle from New Zealand - another very informative set of articles from spirit.

Meslom - received through automatic writing in the early 20th century. The book is viewable on archive.org through this link.

The Zodiac Messages - The foundation of Christian Spiritualism. Messages from the spirit communicator who claimed to be from the time of Jesus. Received through the mediumship of Winifred Moyes from 1923-1957.
It is not only a medium who can receive and transmit messages. Everybody does this all the time without realising it. Every thought we have is 'available' to the spirit world, and everyday our spirit guides and loved ones are sending us messages too. I believe that an increasing number of people are understanding this and it is my hope that websites such as mine will help with this understanding.

When we have an idea, especially an inspirational idea, this may well be a message from spirit. Our spirit friends are always keen to help, whether this be on our spiritual path or in our everyday life. We can also ask for help - with anything really. The challenge is to distinguish spirit messages from our own cognitive thinking. Generally the more we think about things the less the input from spirit. A spirit message is the sort of message that just comes without thinking, perhaps when you are thinking of something completely different. For example, a composer might get the next theme of his/her piece whilst on the way upstairs to the loo! Even though whilst at the piano they were stuck, when they released their physical brain from the problem it was open to receive an inspirational idea. A scientist might have a breakthrough in the same way.

Many people talk to their loved ones in spirit as they go about their everyday chores. Some people feel that the loved one talks back to them. There are also people who do this with the written word.

Again, another way of communicating is at night in our dreams. This is a whole new area and perhaps deserves a page of its own. It sometimes comes under the heading of lucid dreaming. Whilst a lucid dream is not necessary for contact with the spirit world, including one's 'higher self', it is perhaps the next best thing to an OBE. Meanwhile, in ordinary dreams - sometimes quite vivid, though falling short of lucid in definition - we can dream about our loved ones and feel that they were really with us when we review the dream in the morning. Most likely they were!
Although some people think that the Bible expressly forbids mediumship and communicating with spirit, there are a number of passages which allow or encourage it.
1 Thessalonians 5, v.19-21: Do not suppress the spirit or treat the gift of prophesy with contempt. Test them all and hold on to what is good.
1 John, 4, v.1: Test the spirits as to whether they are of God.
1 Corinthians 12, v.10: Some are given the gift of “discerning” what the spirits have to say.
Joel 2, v.28-29: It shall come to pass afterwards that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions, and also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days I will pour out my spirit.
And for OBE experiences:
2 Corinthians 12, v.2: I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven. Whether it was in the body or out of the body I do not know - God knows.
