Spiritualism at a Glance    About Spiritualism (BBC website):

John Hardaker's website   A very good and useful wesite resource. Looks of books, many in free downloadable pdf form, recordings and transcripts of talks by spirit communicators through trance mediums, etc, etc. Some of the books on this site are amongst those listed below in categories. John's website was one of the first that we came across and we learned so much from it.

Afterlife TV with Bob Olson An American online TV show with many interviews with all sorts of people about the afterlife, Out of the Body Experiences, Near Death Experiences, communication with departed loved ones, etc , etc. Great stuff. You can search for an interview you might be interested in on the right of their homepage. Most interviews last about an hour, so sit back with a glass of something and enjoy! Some Brits may find it a bit too 'American' but in my opinion the material outweighs any minor annoyances. (Note: recently the interviews have only been audio with still photos, rather than having the interviewee on webcam.)

Seth One of the most influential 'characters' in the New Age(?) spiritual movement. A fascinating and huge resource given by Jane Roberts trance in the 1960s and 70s.

Books and other media about the Afterlife in general:

The Point of Power  by Peter Baksa. This book is about how we can all shape our lives by putting our intentions out to the Universe/God, and there is a fair attempt to show how scientific methods, through Quantum Theory, can justify this and also provide evidence of the spiritual world and life after death.

Journey of Souls by Dr Michael Newton. A collection of case studies of clients that were hypnotised to recall not only past lives but their life in the spirit world in between incarnations on earth. I really like this book.

Excursions to the Spirit World An account of Out of the Body (OBE) experience / astral travel. Chapter 2 contains descriptions of the 'lower' spheres, but much of the book is about the typical sort of places we might find ourselves in the next world. Downloadable in pdf form from John Hardaker's website and others.

The Ministry of Heaven by the Rev. Vale Owen. 3rd in a series of 5 books written through automatic writing by this very progressive vicar in the early 20th century. I read this series near the beginning of my spiritual journey. It is most suitable for those who come from a Christian background, but are beginning to question traditional teaching, as I was. In The Ministry of Heaven, graphic descriptions and intriguing stories are told about the lowest levels and their inhabitants in the spirit world and how they can be helped and rescued by more angelic spirits from higher regions.

The Highlands of Heaven by the Rev, Vale Owen. 2nd in the series as above, but depicting higher regions of love and light. Other books in the series are: 1.The Lowlands of Heaven (hey, still a pretty good place to be! The emphasis is on the word Heaven, not Lowlands.), 4.The Battalions of Heaven and 5.The Outlands of Heaven.

The Astral City This is a film made in Brazil about a doctor who dies and his experiences in the afterlife. He was a selfish person in life, so he starts in a low place, but progresses as the film goes on. It is a film of the book by the medium, Chico Xavier.
BUT BE WARNED: there is no English UK version. The only version I could get was an Amercian import in Spanish(?) with subtitles, and being a Region 1 DVD, I had to change my laptop DVD reader into region 1 to play it. But I'm glad I got it, despite all this and the fact that it is not very good acting!

After Death - Letters from Julia A short book from the late 19th century. Lovely, if a little quaint. Julia, a young women who died from a fever, tells her story and makes some very strong opinions known through WT Stead, a famous victorian journalist and automatic writer. Downloadable in pdf form from John Hardaker's website.

Multidimensional Man A book of personal experiences and insights by Jurgen Ziewe, who through 40 years of strict meditation found he could easily experience the spirit world through lucid dreams and OBEs. Also by him: Vistas of Infinity.

The Joseph Communications A series of channelled books brought through by trance medium Michael Reccia from . The spirit Joseph and his friends tell us about the afterlife - details which agree with most other spirit writings, including Vale Owen's from 100 years ago - which is encouraging. But Joseph adds a crucial element, which he calls The Fall. However although there are parallels, this is not the fall as in Adam and Eve in the Bible. I recommend starting this serties by reading Your life after Death. I was pleased to read that Reccia and his company do not take personal funds from the sale of material.
Some music with spiritual connotations that I like for various reasons...
(Note: sorry but some of these links may not work on mobiles. I think it's something to do with mobiles not showing ads so no revenue is generated and so it gets blocked...
But you can find the songs through your own searches if you want.)

The Spirit Carries On - Dream Theatre (Live version) One of my son's favourite power ballads.

(What if God was) One of Us? - Joan Osborne This song just makes me smile. Seeing as we are all part of God, it has an ironic truth. (It's sometimes mistakenly attributed to Alanis Morissette)

Spirits in the Material World - The Police Yes, we are!!

Imagine - John Lennon I never used to understand this song - but now I do!

Let it Be - The Beatles This song is about Paul McCartney's mother, Mary, appearing in spirit in front of him, speaking words of wisdom.

Er, just in case you're wondering, these aren't the only pieces of music in the world that I like!! It's just that this column is a recent after-thought and I will add to it in due course! :-)
